Paintball game at Isi Rimba Camp.

Today, 6 of us went to Isi Rimba camp for paintball game… If you wonder where is it located… The brochure attached below will be of great help…

Yes... it is located somewhere nearby Zoo Negara. Feel free to click on the picture to enlarge it.

Each of us was just given a (smelly) face mask, a "marker" (they called the gun as "marker" as it was originally used by the native Americans to mark on the trees), and a refill of pallets. We had 300 pallets each. No pallet-proof armor was given anyway... Your own body will be the "armor" and take all the pain...

We played at 3 different scenes (2 rack-ball courts and jungle) and all of us got shots like hell… I even got the pain at my “balls”…

Fang Jen is leaving in less than 6 hours and we all decided to drag him out before he is going back Moscow. Well, he is not coming back Malaysia for next year’s holidays as he has accumulated enough postings. Dude… safe journey back to Moscow!

OUM 6th Convocation.

Nope. It was not my convocation… I already had mine on May. =) It was my aunt’s convocation… She works as a teacher but still she able to spare out some of her time in order to get a science degree. There is one Chinese saying sounds like this “One can keep learning despite of the aging process” (huo2 dao4 lao3, xue2 dao4 lao3), I guess my aunt is a good role model for this.

Well, the convocation ceremony of Open University Malaysia (OUM) held at Dewan Merdeka, PWTC. It was less likely to spot young graduates around as from what my sis told me, OUM is mostly opened to those who aged >30. To be frank, I really salute them for their strong determination. Most of them are working their full-time job, owned a family and need to take good care of their family… not forgetting other commitments in life. But still they able to spare out their precious time and complete a degree, which is not an easy task for sure. Congratulations everyone!

The letter.

I’ve got the letter from Suruhanjaya Perkhidmatan Awam (SPA), FINALLY! Well, I need to go for a medical check-up and to take a pledge (surat akuan sumpah) at a local court in a week time. Meanwhile, I’m looking forward to the second letter (which should be in 2 weeks time from now) from Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia (KKM) where they will state to where I’ll be sent to. Please… DO NOT send me too far away from home… Please. (I’m begging hard ok?)

If you are observant enough, you may notice the date of the letter is 3/7/2008 which is (more than) a month ago. What takes SPA so long to mail us the letters? Well, the conversation below might be of a little help.

We were at Imperial City Restaurant to celebrate my sis's BIG DAY... Nope my sis is not getting married yet... It's her 21st birthday (the actual date is 12th August)!!!

Well, if you are to listen to my opinion on this Imperial City... I would say "Not really worth the price! And the wine sucked. I'd rather pay slightly more to go for Ah Yat abalones..." Anyway it was not me who paid the bill for this time... =P

Supposedly it should be a whole gathering + YC's birthday pre-celebration (his actual birthday is on 28th July). However, some of them turned down due to various reasons...

Chien Fui had video shooting at one of the hotels and would not make it.

Min Jie had a political meeting to attend and would not make it.
Ying Ni and Yong Kwan had company event to attend and would not make it as well...

But still, we had fun with Fang Jen's presence... He used to be a humorous guy and now he still is. But we were pity for him as his ear lobes were in red... He should "thank" Suet Wei and Kit Mei for that. LOL...

It has been sometime I didn't see YW since we got back from Hong Kong. I remember one of his sms saying he missed those old days we yum char together. Sempena his birthday, we decided to "invite" him to come to KL so that we all can celebrate with him. Li Guo, Zhi Yang, Yen Wei and I had a drink at Murni a night before his birthday. It was like those old days where we talked nonsense like nobody business and you know... YW's imaginary questions were indispensable.

On the next day, YW, ZY and I went breakfast together before meeting up with LG at Times Square. We went Low Yat Plaza together as YW had something to buy. After that, we went back to Times Square's Gasoline and waited for Han Ping's arrival.

Today is my uncle's birthday... So mom, sis and I went to this korean restaurant (which is strongly recommended by my cousin sister) at Taman Danau Desa with my uncle.

A trip to Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. (9th - 12th July)

The plan to climb up Mount. Kinabalu was first initiated a year ago. After months of planning and planning, we finally executed it! But too bad, Chan Hoe was not following us due to some unforeseen reasons.

Everyone around me was trying their best to tell me how difficult it is…
“Huh? Are you serious? Not easy to climb up one lah! You know what, my friend… blah blah blah…”,
“I was half-dead climbing up a small hill at Kuantan last time, now you are telling me you want to climb up Mount. Kinabalu?”,
“Aiyo… I heard very difficult to climb up one lah…”,
“You sure you want to do it? Hmm… alright…”,
“Have you ever heard of spirits in the mountain? They exist!”,
“I climbed up before but I only able to reach Laban Rata. We were not allowed to push to the peak as it was raining at night… But I can tell you my legs were “paralysed” soon I back to KL!”,
“You got so much time and money to waste is it?”,
“Are you doing some stamina training one month before the trip? If not you better quit it!”,
“Mount. Kinabalu? One of the tallest mountains of southeast Asia ah? OH MY GOD!”,
“Did you watch one of the Astro’s programmes where the artistes climbing up Mount. Kinabalu… Well, you should have watched it and you won’t be thinking of doing it.”

And my replies were...
“If gals can do it, I can do it too!”,
“Aiyo… hike up only ma… they got a trail one… not that hard I think.”,
“Spirits? They won’t kacau me if I don’t kacau them lah…”,
“Stamina training? Hmm, yup but it’s one week before the trip. I’m going to jog at Bandar Tun Razak. At the mean time, I’ll use staircase whenever possible…”,
“Are you exaggerating?”,
“Don’t scare me lah… Anyway I’ve paid and I must do it!” and etc…

Well, I have underestimated the difficulty level of climbing up Mount. Kinabalu…It was one of the most difficult “tasks” in my life so far… Anyhow, I’ve made it to the peak! YES, I MADE IT TO THE PEAK!!! (I know it sounds unbelievable to some of you… LOL)

Day 0 – Took the delayed AirAsia flight from LCCT to Kota Kinabalu (KK) airport. Reached KK at around 1am and spent a night at TuneHotel located at 1 Borneo.

Day 1 – Woke up damn early to go to KK Park. After paid for the permit and so on, we took our packed lunch at Balsam Café and took the minibus to Timpohon gate. We started to climb at 10am.

Me and KM. He was my best companion of the day as we were known as the "turtle" brothers as we climbed relatively slower, as compared to the other three "rabbit" friends.

We had our packed lunch at Pondok Layang-layang... Another 2KM to Laban Rata. These 2Km were more challenging than the previous 4KM.

It was 9.3 degree C at daytime.

After taking dinner, we rest at 7PM and we were required to wake up at 1AM on the next day to push to the peak.

Day 2 – Woke up DAMN early in the middle of the night, 1am and got prepared. Both my thighs were in deep pain and so I’ve applied some analgesic cream. We started to push to the peak at 2.30am. Climbing in the dark was not easy at all, where the trail becomes more and more steep. Most of the times we need to hold on to a rope in order to climb up the naked granite rocks.

As you may predict, Kien Meng and I were left out by others again but finally we both made it to the peak! I guess I just did something beyond my (human) limit... and I should feel proud of it!

Descending from the summit was faster and easier but extra care need to be taken as not to slip or fall. We took approx 5 hours to descend to Timpohon gate.

Soon we got back to Tune Hotel, we got ourselves prepared as we were going to meet YC's friends from Sabah - Claudia and Alfred. They both are very friendly. They took us to a lounge bar at KK town and we had some beer. After that, they brought us around KK town but too bad I fall asleep in the car. LOL. I was just too tired...

Day 3 - I woke up in the morning with both my legs "paralysed" and so i applied analgesic cream again. We took our breakfast at 1 Borneo before heading to KK town.

Hong Kong Trip (26th - 30th June)!

First of all, I would like express my greatest gratitude to Aunt Yoke Thye as she fully-sponsored me for this HK trip. Here’s a BIG THANK YOU!

To be more precise, it was actually Hong Kong & Shen Zhen trip. Well, HK is nice but it was raining everyday! Our best companion of the day would be our own umbrellas… =P

Day 0 – Li Guo, Zhi Yang and I took the KTM train from KL to Butterworth in order to meet Yen Wei… It was a 10 hours journey and I couldn’t sleep well in the train…

Day 4 – We returned to HK by train after we had breakfast.

And… we were at Disneyland! Guess we were too old to go Disneyland. LOL.

B104 - the roller-coaster?

The four years journey at IMU officially ended last saturday (24th May 2008). Well, I would say the year of studying pharmacy was like a roller-coaster to me. I’d call it the B104 roller-coaster.

Once you get up, you can never get down...
I still remember ZY and I got ~~conned~~ counseled by the same counselor as she assured us that BPharm is easy to study and not too hectic, blah blah blah. (which is not true at all!) She made me took my very first step to enroll into the programme and I was offered a place at BPharm. My studying-like-hell days just began. Since semester 1, we had this hectic schedule.

Yes, we studied from 8am to 6pm, almost everyday!

In semester 4, where "it was a nightmare!" we were required to sit for 8 papers in 2 weeks time. I'm glad that I'm still alive and kicking.

There were days where I ~~couldn't finish my portfolio~~ "lost" the soft-copy of my portfolios.

There were days where I was so pissed off with Clinical Pharmacokinetics & Therapeutic Drug Monitoring (TDM).

Your friends will never leave you half-way...
I think that is quite true unless they wanted to "commit suicide". Our batch started with almost 80 students but ended up only 56 of us graduated. Some had got offer from local universities… I heartiest-ly congrats them for getting the course they wanted. Some dropped off for some reasons... I truly wish them best of luck in their future undertakings. Some were required to repeat semester due to some unforeseen reasons... I felt sorry to them. But don’t worry guys… Just take a ride again after a long rest. I know you guys can make it!

You may ask did I ever thought of leaving half-way? I would say YES… I still remember the days where my gang and I planned to credit-transfer to other universities since semester 1… but once we proceeded to semester 5, seems no one raised up that issue again. How weird?

I even bought the UTAR application form and paid for the postal order. I thought of giving up since semester 1… Anyhow, I’m glad that I’ve made it through.

There are ups and downs, twists and turns.
That is not a strange fact unless you never ride on a roller-coaster before. My 4 years life at IMU was full with ups and downs, twists and turns. For better or worse, I’m so glad I’ve made some great friends at IMU. They were there when I needed them most...

Perfect strangers -> best friends!
B104 roller-coaster is an atypical one as it turned perfect strangers into best friends.

I enrolled into the course all alone and it was a nightmare meeting 75+ strangers on the first day. You may see it as an exciting experience meeting new people… True, but I would prefer a long-known friend instead of a complete stranger. Nevertheless, I’m glad that some of these strangers have become my best friends at IMU. Just to name some…

Li Guo – He was the first one who talked to me at IMU. Our conversation started with him asking “Hi, do you speak Mandarin?”… I thought he was a lecturer at first but after we introduced ourselves, then only I found out he was at the same age as me. Unbelievable.

I would say LG is a kind person as he has a big heart (proportional to his size perhaps) and loves to help others. He is fun to hang out with as he can tell really interesting jokes despite of his book-worm appearance. He is VERY diligent… I guess no one would ever deny that and at the end of the day, he graduated with the highest CGPA in my gang. He has VERY high moral values as well… too many theories for him to tell you and I guess that is what holds him back whenever he planned to do some not-so-nice things.

For those who are not too close with LG, you may not know LG actually suffering from depression (diagnosed by our gang)… He has a big but fragile heart, so we’d appreciate it if you can try to avoid from hurting him psychologically and making him felt depressed. Other bad qualities? It’s for you to find out, if there’s any…

Yen Wei – His first impression to me is kiasu (in Hokkien, afraid to lose)… I still remember he kept asking other people STPM CGPA even on the very first day… When I found out he came from Chung Ling, I guess I can rationalize his act of asking CGPA around. You know, Chung Ling flooded with top students and top students are competitive in nature.

I would say YW is a “bridge” in my gang… He made good relationship with lecturers and my other batchmates… He is diligent and intelligent, with his ultimate aim of graduating with a first class honours degree. He is kind-hearted as he will also help out other ~~when he is not too busy~~. He has made my IMU life much easier and I owed him a favour, in helping me to pass Clinical Pharmacokinetics and Clinical Pharmacy V papers. He used to be a great companion of mine as we can talk nonsense like nobody business and shiok sendiri. Other people might think we were suffering from some mental disorders as we used to laugh hysterically without others knowing what were we laughing at. Mind you… you might be the reason we were laughing… LOL.

Another nickname of YW is “rate-limiting step”. As the name suggests, he is extremely SLOW in everything but he never late for exams. How weird? Remember semester 3’s Extemporaneous Dispensing practical exam? Opps…

Zhi Yang – My first impressions was “Oh! This guy is sooooo quite…” as he (with his nerdy hairstyle) was sitting alone quietly with his two laps “sticked” together. When I get to know more about him, only I found out he is very talkative and he is a news-satellite. He knows everything that happened in our batch. Later, he joined LG and I for lunch at Food Avenue and our friendship had grew stronger. Over the years, his hair had evolved from nerdy hairstyle to spiky hairstyle, and to the hairstyle he’s having now. It was a good change dude.

You can hardly see ZY attending lectures as his biological clock is somehow different from normal homosapiens. He likes online-ing, chatting with his friends around the globe, styling and colouring his hair, and last but not least, clubbing. There was once we suspected ZY is not a human as he is gifted with a GREAT limbic system. For instance, he took only 1 hour (or less perhaps) to memorise stuffs that we need to spend one whole day on. We also suspected ZY has 4 stomachs (like cow) as he can eat A LOT, ask those who went Chicken Buffet with him…

Not forget to mention that ZY loved to text me especially during study break and it kept reminding me that the real exam date was approaching. Whenever I saw a message started with “How WK? I’m so scared!!! I have no mood to study now. Do you think I can finish if I start revising tomorrow?”… I know it was ZY!

Chia Whey – To be frank, I was not dare to speak to him on the very first day as he looked like a gangster (with his hairstyle and hair colour and etc). But finally, we began our conversation in IMU’s library… I was praying hard that he won’t kill me if I spoke something wrong. He was the next to join LG, ZY and I for lunch at Food Avenue and the four of us were having great time spending lunch together and talking nonsense. You will find CW as kind, helpful and genuine friend.

CW used to be very close with me as we were TWINS. In my gang, we used to be the “gay” couple as he we both can act really gay. My gang was so upset when we found out CW was required to repeat semester 5 and that made us could not proceed and graduate together. How sad was that…

CW… we might not be as close as before but you will always be part of our gang. We truly wish you all the best and WE WANT TO SEE YOU GRADUATING ON YEAR 2009!!!

Han Ping – we began our conversation when we exchanged our phone numbers in auditorium during the orientation week. His first impression to me was he is a banana! And the truth is HE IS A BANANA, but still he can speak Mandarin with English accent. How interesting…

I see HP as a big planner. He is good in planning and he has great plans ahead to achieve what he wants… I guess he is someone good to talk to on those financial planning thingy. HP has a nickname – BOLITA (which made up of “bola” and “wanita”)… For BOLA, football is his life. He loves to play football and he has won some medals for IMU pharmacy team… For WANITA, he has a girlfriend for 5 years (or more?) and he has been a good boyfriend. For instance, he will not join us for Wednesday movie day as he always spare that day out to teman his girlfriend. Am I’m being sarcastic?

Poh Hon – I guess everyone would agree if I relate PH with money. Well, PH will make sure every penny he spent worth it… To certain extent, it is a good thing but hmm… He is a tall guy who always falls asleep during lectures with his own style, a unique one – he used both his hands to support his neck from the back. Hard to imagine eh?

PH is a special friend of mine as he gave me the most “special” birthday present – Armada Strawberry. He is also my best “HI-HI” (or “WAVE-WAVE” or “YUPP-YUPP”) friend since semester 7… It was not hard for you to see both of us waving hands like there’s no tomorrow and greeting each other by saying HI-HI or YUPP-YUPP. Why were we doing that? We actually imitating someone (I’m not going to disclose the name here, you may guess it right if you smart enough?).

A life experience.
Like it or not, it’d still be a life experience after years of riding on that B104 roller-coaster. To me, it’s going to be a memorable one. 4 years is not a short duration and thank God I’ve been gifted with these great friends who completed the chapter of my university life. I’ll always remember the days we laughed together, the days we cried together (I’m exaggerating…), the days we skipped lectures together, the days we “plagiarized” together, the days we studied like hell together, the days we cheered together, the days we did stupid things together, the days we gossiped together, the days we stood at weird places together, the days we touchwood-ed together, the days we prayed together, the days we hang out together, the days we went out trips together… too many the days and I shall end it up with… the day we graduated together.

Once again, THANK YOU dudes! I’m so glad to have you all. To all B104ian – ALL THE BEST and we’re going to make great pharmacists! WE’RE PHARMACISTS!!!

Convocation – An EUPHORIC occasion!

Finally… the day has came and I GRADUATED!!!

The convocation ceremony held at Sheraton Subang and we were required to be there by 7am for briefing, rehearsal and robing. We were late... as usual... Haha. Sorry to May as we made her late as well.

The ceremony started at 10am sharp with the procession of US. It was like we are superstars as everyone starred at us when we walked in the grand ballroom on the red carpet… we were seated and the ceremony began with the boring speech... after the boring speech, we waited for our turn to go to the stage and receive the degree folder from IMU chancellor. We walked a big round around the hall to receive flowers, this-and-that before we went back to our seats. After the conferment, it was the announcement of Gold Medalist, Dean’s List and Book Prizes… and… the END of ceremony!

I've finally achieved something GREAT in my life! I've made my family and friends proud! (I hope i did...) I've reached a great milestone in my life!

Oh my goodness, it was a nightmare! They took FOREVER to take the order, serve the foods and pass the bill. Hopefully it didn’t ruin my mom’s mood. A trip to Pulau Perhentian.

I just came back from Pulau Perhentian yesterday night. It was a “class trip” despite of the fact that there was only 10 from my batch turned up. But still, we had fun.

Day 0 – We reached Titiwangsa bus station at 9pm. It took us 8 hours from KL to Besut. I guess I was having bedsore!

Day 1 – Reached Besut at 5am. Had breakfast twice down the line and waiting for the speed boat like forever… We finally reached the island at around 11.30am. After taking lunch, it was snorkeling, snorkeling, and snorkeling.

Sem8 results OUT!

I couldn't sleep the night before. You may/may not know, i am actually having this so called pre-result-released-nervous-syndrome (PRRNS). Well, i popped in lorazepam again. Hopefully i will not develop tolerance that soon.

After 8 hours of pseudo-tachycardia soon i woke up, I got my result slip at AAD and I PASSED!!! Although ~~with flying shits~~ not with flying colours, but I’m still very happy as I’m convocating on 24th May 2008.

I felt really surprised when I found out there is only Chi Fei in the Dean’s List and he is the only one graduating with a first class honours (and for sure he is also the Gold Medalist) in my batch. To those who are very close to it but ended up with second upper class honours, we’re still able to make great pharmacists in the near future!

It will be ME in the robe, hood and mortar board! Hurray. (Please bear with me as I have been dreaming long for this day!)

I’m going to make my family, relatives and friends proud. And now ~~I guess~~ i did! =)

To that special someone (you know who you are), thank you so much for all the time you have spent with me. I would not have made it this far without you. Thank you, once again!

Finally, we finished our FINAL final EOS8 exam today. Yesterday paper was a 2-hour wrriten paper on Clinical Pharmacy IV, I did questions 1 (pharmaceutical care plan, compulsory question) and question 3 (therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) on vancomycin). TDM is my weak part. You might ask why I did not choose to do question 2 (drugs use in endocarditis, unstable angina, COPD and rheumatoid arthritis)… Simply because I was running out of time after I spent 75 minutes on question 1, I guess I will need another 60 to 90 minutes if I were to do question 2. At last, I decided to do question 3 as I thought I could finish all the calculation in 45 minutes. At the end, I could finish (at very last minute) but I wondered if my answer was correct as I did not have enough time to double-check. Just hope I can pass that paper.

Today paper was OSCE (objective structured clinical examination). Well, there were simulated doctors or patients in 7 of the 15 stations and we were required to complete the tasks given which were (1) responding to symptoms, (2) drug history taking, (3) counseling on effective use of device, (4) therapeutic drug monitoring, (5) counseling on effective use of medications, (6) prescription screening and (7) drug information queries. The rest of the stations were preparatory or rest stations. In general, I think I did much better than the previous mock OSCE’s, where “it was totally a nightmare” (quoted from Ms. July). Hope I can pass that paper as well.

After exam, IMU gang and I decided to go One-Utama for lunch and movie after a long discussion. We dined in at Dragon-I, the food was not bad but we felt cheated as they charged us on the tidbits and soft towelettes (which we were not using at all). And it was not cheap!

We watched Nim’s Island after lunch… Darn! The movie was so damn bored and 4 (out of 5) of us fall asleep while watching that movie. A “BIG THANK” to LG for his interesting version of the synopsis. I would rate the movie 2.5/10.

As usual, we lepak here and there before headed home. And our hot topics of the day were “Do you think I can pass the exam?”, “Which state should we apply for the government service?”, “How to get the hospitals that we wanted?” and some guys’ talk.

Does it come to an end? For B.Pharm (Hons), I would say YES and we all will graduate soon. But for our friendship, it is a BIG NO-NO…

So I say a little prayer and GOD… please let us pass!

Car accident.

Yup, it was my car involved in the accident… Nothing particular to blog on, just to express my dissatisfaction.

“GO TO HELL!” to the driver’s brother (who’s driving a maroon colour Proton Saga with the car plate number WCH 1599) for his extremely rude behaviour. The driver was fine to talk with but his brother… was like a barbarian, talking foul languages all the time and kept insisting it was my fault. Bear in mind, I was on the straight road and his brother speeded out from the side road and banged on the front right driver side of my car. I wondered whose fault was that! Since negotiation came out as a failure, my mom and I decided to lodge a police report.

The driver's brother is the one in red.

“GO TO HELL!” this one is for the police officer (Sarjan Shamsudin that in-charged of my case). He kept shouting at me all the time and being very VERY rude, he was treating me like I was a prisoner. Well, I know I should not even speak an English word. I should not have said “gold colour” instead of “warna jingga” as he could barely understand English. Finally, that sucker told me that he would not summon both of us (the driver and I) as both of us were not wrong! F**K YOU!!!

Sucker: Okie, macam ni… kedua-dua tak ada salah.
Me: Huh? Tapi encik… dia yang langgar saya dulu.
Sucker: Dengar! Sekarang bukan siapa yang langgar siapa dulu dia salah, kena tengok garisan atas jalan raya. Sekarang kedua-dua jalan tak ada garisan, jadi kedua-dua jalan bukan “main road”. Jadi, tak kira siapa langgar siapa, kedua-dua tiada salah.
Me: Jika kedua-dua jalan bukan “main road”, bukankah seharusnya tengok siapa langgar siapa ke? Saya jalan perlahan-lahan, dia jalan cepat-cepat and langgar kereta saya. Dia tak ada tengok kereta dan terus pecut keluar.
Sucker: Jangan lu cerita banyak-banyak, saya banyak kerja mau buat ni. Banyak orang tunggu kat luar. Jika lu mau cerita banyak-banyak, jumpa saya hari esok kat mamak…
Me: Tak apa lah… boleh saya pergi sekarang?
Sucker: Boleh. Nanti pergi ambil gambar.
Me: Ambil gambar apa?
Sucker: Ambil gambar kereta lah!!! (in very very rude way)

End of Hospital Posting!

Hurray… it comes to an end finally. End of 3-month hospital posting means:
- I do not have to wake up damn early everyday.
- I do not have to drive for an hour to HTAR and another hour to get back home.
- I can “escape” from the foods at hospital’s canteen.
- I do not have to stay in the ward clerking cases and predispose myself to deadly infections.
- I do not have to deal with some of the rude nurses (especially those from ward 6B).
- I do not have to walk all the way from ward supply to library just to have a short nap.
- I do not have to do care plans (not until my pupilage starts).
- I do not have to present cases and suffering stress trauma as all my preceptors are very knowledgeable.
- And …

You may think it sounds sad to get posted to the hospital itself. But still, I’m happy as I able to meet some nice preceptors, doctors and pharmacists at HTAR. They have been helping me a lot throughout this posting. So here is a BIG THANK to them!

Yup, I passed! But my CGPA has dropped drastically. And yes, I’m no longer in first class, which means I need to pay for my PTPTN loan. Darn!

More than 80% of my batchmates have the same fate as me. We just hated research semester where it was all about uncertainties, bias, depression, and disappointment. I’m glad that I made it through and I believed my situation was not the worst after all. No matter how, life goes on…

I told myself that this CNY is going to be an “atypical” one as I’ll be spending my time completing the pharmaceutical care plans, doing written clinical case study, preparing for the integrated seminar & OPD presentations, and to study for EP (Evaluating Pharmacotherapy) exam, in this one-week holidays.

Who knows I ended up lazing around and left my works untouched! I’M JUST TOO ~~LAZY~~ TIRED!

L.C.A. stands for Lokman Chinese Association, it was my gang back in secondary school days. We have 7 members - Chan Hoe, Chien Fui, Fang Jen, Hao Yoong, Min Jie, Wai Kit and Yew Chan. It was not easy to get all of them together as we are all busy with our lives.

Chan Hoe is now studying E&E and at the same time, he worked hard to pursue his career at Amway.
Chien Fui has now moved to USJ and very busy with his businesses.
Fang Jen is now studying Medicine at Russia, and busy with his girlfriend too.
Hao Yoong is a fresh-grad engineer who is now working at Tasik Selatan.
Min Jie is now studying Medicine at Russia with FJ and with his busy schedule.

Wai Kit is still trying his very best to graduate and get a degree in pharmacy.
Yew Chan is now studying civil engineering at USM and busy with his final year project.

In these two days, I able to meet every one of them. Those old days remind me…

I was watching a live TV show from 8TV at around 1pm. The prize was quite attractive where you can get 5k (if I’m not mistaken) provided you are the tenth caller and able to answer a simple question. The question was to guess an animal that symbolized freedom. They gave us a hint where the letters started with MER_ _ _ _, I know the answer is MERPATI and so I sent the SMS to the number provided on TV screen. I want to play and win! (too early to daydream anyway) I have sent 5 SMS in total and I found out that was something gone wrong. See the following.

I received a SMS at 12:43PM and I was the 4th caller. (not too far, not too near…)
I received another SMS at 12.53PM and I was the 6th caller. (hmm, 4 more SMS to win 5k!)
I received another SMS at 12:54PM and I was the 3rd caller. (WHAT!? What happened?)

A MALAYSIAN student has saved a woman from drowning off southeast Queensland and likely lost his own life in the process. (Adelaide News)
Police said the 25-year-old man went missing off Moreton Island after helping a woman in difficulty shortly before 4pm (AEST) yesterday.

The pair were with a group of Malaysian students from the University of Queensland camping at Honeymoon Bay with Brisbane-based Blue Planet Tours, said Trevor Hassard from Moreton Island's Tangalooma Wild Dolphin Resort.

The group went swimming in the bay and soon found themselves caught in a rip.

"As they came out past the rocks, they were yelling and screaming,'' Mr Hassard told said.

"The Malaysians who made it to the rocks leaned over and grabbed the people as they went past and they were very successful,'' he said.

"They got down to two people left, a male and a female in the water and the man was within reach.
"But he actually grabbed the female who was out of reach and pushed her towards the people who were rescuing other members of the group.

"She got pulled out of the water but in pushing her within reach, he pushed himself out of reach.

"He saved her life but it is likely that he lost his own.

"It was absolutely amazing - a totally selfless thing.''

Mr Hassard said people had been lost at Honeymoon Bay in the past.

Conditions there varied so people staying at the resort were advised not to swim there.

"We have a policy where no one is allowed in the water past their knees at Honeymoon Bay,'' he said.

Police are talking to Blue Planet Tours to determine what happened.

Its manager, Ian Stuart, said the company had been "devastated'' by yesterday's events but declined to comment further.

An air and sea search was due to resume at first light tomorrow.

Commencement of Semester 8!

Yo... Semester 8! The last semester! And I'm convocating on May 2008...

Busy doing research project and writing thesis for the previous sem (sem 7). Sad to say that, we have no "real" holidays as our holidays are spent for thesis... What a relieve when i submitted my thesis to AAD on friday (7th Dec 2007). Hopefully everything will turn out to be fine for me. Let's look back to Sem 7, it was a disappointent for me as i saw some "ugly faces" of the lecturers and my colleagues. Well, i know everyone is self-centred but you just don't have to make it to the extreme end! *better keep my mouth shut at this point of time*

The first week of sem 8 was not a good start for me. I found out that i will be sent to Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah (HTAR), Klang for the next 2 1/2 months (17th Dec to 27th Feb 2008). What again!? This is my 3rd/4th time being placed at HTAR... and it is damn far from my living place. I was upset and so i talked to Dr. Tey and the pharmacy practice team about my problems:

I stay at cheras and it took me around 1 hour to drive to Klang (one-way). We were told to be at HTAR at 8am sharp. It's going to kill me physically and mentally. Who is going to be responsible if accident happened to me when i get "exhausted"? IMU? No, they just like money (IMU = International Money University)... No offences. The lecturers? No, they will feel sorry but everything will be too late. Then who to blame? My bad luck... that's the only answer.
The cost of petrol and tolls. The petrol and tolls cost RM22.60 per day, and IMU is not going to reimburse us. True, we can cut the cost by car-pooling but it will still be large amount.
I want to spend more time with my family (not going to elaborate here).

And the outcome is... I failed. I still need to go HTAR for the placement. Don't get me wrong, i'm not here to blame Dr. Tey and the pharmacy practice team as i understand their difficulties in accomodating us. And as Dr. Tey said, not everyone can be pleased (more than 50% of us did not get the hospital we want). I did appreciate the pharmacy practice team as they gave me some suggestions for my problem and not just entertaining me. I guess that's all they can do as the number of places in each hospital is not determined by the pharmacy practice team. Thanks anyway... Hopefully doing placement at HTAR is going to be a great experience for me.

I feel kinda sorry to LG and HP as they are going Seremban Hospital... Just blame our lucks. A chinese preposition says that "Good lucks are coming after the bad ones". To think positively (and superstitiously), our good lucks are coming dudes!

This post is dedicated to my miscarriage-ed siblings.

It is now the Ghost Festival in Chinese tradition. Today, my sis and I followed my mom to a temple nearby my house to “visit” my miscarriage-ed siblings.

I can see many people trying to look for the name of their related-ones on the small yellow cards which flooded the temple. It was not surprise to see people carrying a handkerchief and keep seeping their eyes as the names on those yellow cards belonged to those who were miscarriage-ed or passed away at a very young age. How sad?

Superstitiously speaking, I hope my miscarriage-ed siblings have reincarnated and are now living a happy life. I HOPE...

Hurray…. I submitted my research proposal today! Feel more relieved now… I still confused of the spacings... Whatever...

Went One-Utama with IMU gang at late evening to shop for something… (will be disclosed soon)

I guess everyone was in a state of euphoria after submitting the proposal... That's why we decided to drive to Genting Highlands for a drink at late night. To be more precise, it was 1am something... We went up Genting by 3 cars (15 of us), and i was one of the drivers. It was my first time driving up to Genting, driving up is not that hard... Hehe.

But driving down the hill was a scary experience for me... Well, accidents nearly happened. Phew! Luckily we are all safe. The moral of the story is:

1. "Selekoh bahaya" means really "bahaya", DO NOT ever try to challege it! (especially when your car is not equipped with ABS)

2. DO NOT fall asleep while driving although you are damn sleepy!

Serdang hospital.

I’ll be doing my attachment at Hospital Serdang next semester (if no one wants to shift with me)… PJ gang and I went for an ‘adventurous trip’ to Serdang yesterday night, to find this so-called very high-tech hospital.

And it really looks very high-tech. Wow…

For your information, it was about 20 minutes driving distance (20km) from bandar tun razak (with no jam).

My great friends "suggested" me to rent a room at Cyber Jaya if I were to placed at serdang hospital, and so i drove to Cyber Jaya just to have a look. Who knows it was sooooo damn far from serdang hopsital. Another 25km+ from the hospital... I should not have trusted them! I know i get conned looking at the way they laughed!

Cyber Jaya Bridge? Somewhere at Cyber Jaya. Looks great...

I was wondering whether to post the crazy acts of you guys at the hospital's car park... AS A REVENGE!!! Haha...

Well, I have M.I.A (missed in action) for sometime and that explained my almost-dead blog. Here are some updates of mine:

1. Semester 7 is started officially and I’m now in my final year!!! I’m going to do a research project this semester, titled “Effect of Morinda citrifolia cold water extract on human blood coagulation in vitro”. I need to recruit 30 volunteers for their blood (10mL). Please let me know if you are eager to participate in my research and you will be compensated with 20 bucks! *winks*

2. Busy doing extraction. I have been standing in front of the rotary evaporator for about 50 hours (in 4 days)… Darn! And here’s a BIG THANK (*ahem*) to Dr. PRK for his brilliant ideas of doing extraction.

Under the influence of someone, we should spend more time on books rather than clubbing… Are the “clubbing” neurons died lately? I have no idea. Haha.

And that explained the book I bought. The book I bought is “Honk! If You're Malaysian” by Lydia Teh.

The book is damn nice and funny to be read. You might be able to discover your “ownself” as a Malaysian after reading it… I mean the negative aspects mostly. =P

My family and I just came back from Kampar, after attending the funeral of my aunt who passed away yesterday. From what I have been told, she felt malaise in the morning, after that she collapsed as she could not breathe. She was sent to hospital immediately but too bad, everything was too late.

She passed away at age of 66… REST IN PEACE, AUNT…

14 weeks of semester 6 has finally passed… but what waiting for us is the end-of-semester (EOS) 6 exam! Well, we will have a 2-week study break to revise for 5 papers.

I just hate this kind of “chores”, studying like hell just for the sake of passing exam. Who likes exam anyway? I’m talking nonsense again...

Wish me luck. I’ll strive my very (very) best! I hope…

I had a PBL session for musculoskeletal system this morning. Prof Peter Pook is the facilitator for our group and I’m the leader for this time. We felt so stressed as his expectation is so high!

We had another stability & compatibility workshop after that. Metronidazole should not be refrigerated but to keep at temperature between 15 – 20 deg C or else crystals may form. However, such crystals will dissolve upon warming to room temperature. Avoid prolonged contact with direct sunlight as it can lead to degradation of the product (short-term exposure does not affect the stability significantly).

I got the “Cupid goes on strike!” video from Alan. That event is one of our fund-raising activities for our convo-mag. The video is damn funny. Have a look!

May “rated” us and gave us a lecture on “What gals think?” during lunch time. LG got the highest mark while ZY got the lowest mark overall. ZY seems not so satisfied with the marks given. No offences anyway.

I went e-lab to meet my other colleagues for the toxicology project, after lunch. We compiled the write-up and found that there is a minor problem with the content. We decided to discuss about the issues tomorrow.

While waiting for YW outside Dr. Ong’s office, I managed to observe the construction workers doing their “chores”. Out of sudden, a lecturer came to me…

Lecturer: What are you looking at?
Me: Hmm. I’m observing how the construction workers doing their job.
Lecturer: And what you see?
Me: I can see myself as the lucky one, as I’m standing right here but not on that piece of “fragile wood”.
Lecturer: Good. Be grateful of what you are having now!
Me: Yup.

It is true. Although I have been mumbling (to everyone) about the hard life I have in IMU, but still I feel grateful as I have a chance to study and become a better person, a chance to become a pharmacist and to help others in need, a chance to become professional and make my family proud… and more “a chance”. Looking at the construction workers, they were standing on a piece of “fragile wood” and it was 3-floor high without any safety measures! I could not imagine myself on that. Can you?

Life is always unfair. But I do feel grateful as I am the lucky one.

I was damn busy for the last few weeks. Here are some updates of mine:

No more HTAR (Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah), Klang! I have been doing clerking there for 8 days in 3 weeks. It was so damn far from my place!
Visited Malaysia Hospice. To all those cancer patients there, be strong! (Although they are STRONG enough).
I made so many mistakes in the clinical pharmacokinetics class test. The time given is just not enough! I guess I can hardly pass this time.
Presented case studies on aplastic anemia and therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) of valproic acid. Drug information presentation will be on Monday!
Going to help out for IMU’s open day on Sunday.

Few more weeks, few more weeks and I’ll be free from those stressful events in BPharm. (until sem 7 begins).

CK has passed away!

I got this shocking news this morning.

陈健伟, Chin Kien Wai (a.k.a. CK) - my primary and secondary school classmate, has passed away few days back, at A’Famosa Water Park (if I’m not mistaken). From what I have been told, his leg was stuck in the ‘wave generator’ and so he was drowned under water. How sad was that? He was the only son in his family… What such a heart-breaking news to his family and friends? Sigh… life is really (really) fragile and unpredictable somehow…
